Artificial Reef created by URGQ in Moreton Bay, Brisbane
Best dived at slack water
Penetration of the wrecks is not recommended.

Located in Moreton Bay off the east coast of Brisbane.  It lies west of Moreton Island near Cowan Cowan.  This artificial reef is a work in progress.  It commenced in 1968 with the sinking of the vessel Amsterdam. Several boats, pipes, trams, cars, pontoons later and we now have a truly world-class artificial reef.  Research projects into the number of species have found the increase to be extraordinary.  Several Groper have taken up residence.  Moray Eels, Barramundi Cod, Wobbegong Sharks and various other species are common inhabitants.  As with any artificial reef, extra care should be taken, and penetration of the wrecks is not recommended.  Dive site is extremely tidal and care to dive in slack water is a must. For experienced divers, a drift dive through the wrecks can be most rewarding.

For a complete history of items sunk so far to make up the Curtin Artificial Reef, see Curtin Sinking History page.

This Caribou or what remains of it, has been gifted to the Underwater Research Group of Queensland by Defence, and it is planned to submerge it in Moreton Bay to become part of the Curtin Artificial Reef.  This project has been ongoing since September 2000 and we are hopeful that we can progress its delivery to the seabed in the near future.
